Bar Mitzvah Magic Themed Cake

Judy and her son Eric came across our online cake galleries while searching for Bar Mitzvah cakes and asked us if we could collaborate with them to create a cake for Eric’s Bar Mitzvah this past weekend at the Maplewood Country Club in New Jersey.

Eric wanted a cake that reflects him – his interests and personality. Judy described Eric as an exuberant, earnest and funny boy who loves his family, playing cello, magic (i.e. Harry Potter and fantasy type magic). Eric is also a big fan of penguins and has even adopted a few from Turtleback Zoo! He was particularly fond of the penguins we regularly use on our cakes.

Penguin and music themed cake

The theme of his Bar Mitzvah was Sorcerer’s Apprentice and we worked to incorporate as much of Eric’s interests into this 2 tier asymmetrically stacked cake. The top of cake includes a royal blue sorcerer’s hat with a dark purple band at base and stars. The top tier is covered in white
fondant and decorated with Eric’s name and a dark purple band at the base.

Moon and Stars Decoration

Dark colors with Moon and Stars drive home the fantasy theme

At the top of the next tier includes a penguin playing Eric’s favorite instrument – the cello. The tier is covered in royal blue fondant with dark purple marbled with white and black. At the final tier we included another penguin dressed in a wizard hat with a magic wand. Flavors and filings included S’mores and red velvet with vanilla buttercream.

This cake also works for Harry Potter fans as well. However if you want a truly authentic Harry Potter cake, please check out this B’nail Mitzvah cake!
