After working in advertising, Anne decided to quit the corporate world and pursue pastry arts. Once she finished her studies at the French Culinary Institute, Anne apprenticed with Ron Ben-Israel Cakes in New York City. In 2005, she founded Pink Cake Box in Denville, New Jersey, which includes a retail location and a skilled staff of decorators. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and TV shows. Anne is also the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Dessert Professional’s Top Ten Cake Artists of North America and was recognized by Bake Magazine in 2014 as one the most influential cake artists in America.
Anne Heap – Biography
Since the age of six, Anne Heap has had a love for baking that was first inspired by her mother. Now more than thirty years later, she runs Pink Cake Box, a specialty cake boutique in Denville, NJ. A graduate of Boston College, Anne left her career in Advertising in 2004, to pursue one in Pastry Arts. After graduating from The French Culinary Institute and apprenticing with Ron Ben-Israel cakes in New York City, Anne founded Pink Cake Box in October 2005.
Anne is known for her versatility of style, ranging from classic wedding cakes, to bright and whimsical topsy turvy cakes, to complicated sculpted cakes. Anne and her celebrity cakes have been featured in countless blogs, magazines, newspapers, and television including the Food Network, TLC, WeTV, Bravo, Rachael Ray and CNN. In addition, Anne is known internationally for her decorating techniques. She has been teaching her methods for the past ten years, through her own dvd’s and tutorials, as well as in private, group and online classes.
Anne currently sits on the Board of Directors for Icing Smiles, a non-profit organization that creates cakes for families afflicted with critical illness. An active member for the past four years, Anne organized and ran the first fundraising cocktail event in the New York tri-state area in November 2015.
Anne is the 2013 recipient of the prestigious Dessert Professional’s Top Ten Cake Artists of North America and was recognized by Bake Magazine in 2014 as one the most influential cake artists in America. In addition, Pink Cake Box has been recognized by the Daily Meal as having the best cupcake in the country.
Since the age of six, Anne “Khoobiar” Heap has had a love for baking that was first inspired by her mother. Now, almost thirty years later, Anne is a pastry chef, cake designer and founder of Pink Cake Box. A graduate of Boston College, Anne began her career in Advertising in 2001. Her love for the kitchen continued, and she often treated her colleagues to freshly baked cookies, cupcakes and cakes. She joked that one day she’d own her own cookie shop. In August 2004, Anne began selling her pastries to a local gourmet specialty shop. Soon her love for baking led her to leave her job in Advertising to pursue her dream.
Anne studied Pastry Arts at The French Culinary Institute in New York City, (Now The International Culinary Center), completed an apprenticeship with Ron Ben-Israel Cakes in New York City and then became the head pastry chef at Il Capriccio in Whippany, NJ. In 2005, Anne officially founded Pink Cake Box, working out of a restaurant kitchen. Less than two years later, her success led to the opening of a commercial cake studio in Denville, NJ. Since then, Pink Cake Box has grown from a two person operation to a ten person staff, made up of several talented cake decorators, artists and bakers.
Pink Cake Box’s cakes have been featured in Modern Bride,Brides NJ, NJ Bride, InStyle Weddings, Bride & Bloom Magazine, Brides Magazine, People Magazine, Elegant Bride, The Knot Magazine and countless local magazines and newspapers. Anne has also appeared on CNN as a “Small Business Success Story” and “How We Started.” In addition, Anne was included in the “The Art of Wedding Cakes II,” a special produced by Martha Stewart that aired on The Style Network in December 2008. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 Anne competed in three Food Network Cake Challenges and in two of TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off competitions, winning one of them with her Legoland cake.
More recently, her life sized wedding dress cake was featured on Food Network’s “Outrageous Wedding Cakes” in June 2014. Additionally, Anne and her team have made cakes for David Tutera’s “My Fair Wedding,” Rachael Ray, Betty White, Maria Sharipova, and Bethenny Frankel, which was featured on Bravo’s “Bethenny Getting Married.”
In 2013, Anne had the honor of being featured as one of the top 10 cake artists in North America by Dessert Professional and in 2014 she was recognized by Bake Magazine as one the most influential cake artists in America.
