The Food Network has put up a preview of my “cake demise” during my first Food Network Cake challenge. I will explain further once it airs 🙂
Make cakes like a pro with our cake decorating instructional DVDs!
Oh, wow … just watching that preview makes me curious. Talk about a nightmare challenge! Now I really can’t wait to see the show.
OMGosh…Mystery client and mystery assistant!! That must have freaked you out!! I cannot wait to watch it. I love that show and everytime it comes on I am looking for you to see if it’s THE show. I am sure you rocked the cake!
I would have started crying I think. What a hard first challenge! Now that you have this one out of the way they hopefully will be easier. Having to teach on top of making cake WOW! At least she was a artist from her sketches. Hopefully that transfured into three d sculpting skills thought sometimes the person who draws cannot transform into 3-d. I cannot wait to watch and I will be cheering for you. Looking forward to seeing you more on the show.
OH MY!! What a tough challenge….how did everyone cope – and the offer of $1000 to boot off your cake artist – OMG! I cannot wait to see how this plays out – i couldnt imagine the incredible pressure of being in your first challenge only to find out not only is it a mystery client, but that client is YOUR inexperienced assistant! Thanks for sharing the link!
When is the show supposed to air? I have searched the food network line up, and cannot find it. I would love to see that. I think we all secretly wish once in awhile that the bride knew what she was asking for. How hard it is sometimes to incorporate what they want into a design that will work, and still be beautiful. I don’t think I would want that challenge in front of millions though. Hats off to you Anne!
Battle of the Brides is airing March 22 at 8:00pm EST. I couldn’t find it anywhere on the site either 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment..and support 🙂
I am completely impressed as you were the one chef possessing an openness to embrace the client’s vision and to top that, it appeared to be the most “far out” idea. I hope you did extremely well and that this drums up loads of business!

I can’t imagine it’s as bad as you say. You really took the challenge by trying to make the bride happy and going with her design. Whatever has happened, I congratulate you just for doing the challenge!
Just saw the bride challenge. I’m so sorry that your bride was such a b*tch when being interviewed solo. You did a great job trying to fulfill HER horrible vision. She’s just bitter to be working around food when she hadn’t eaten in 3 weeks. I hope to see you in future challenges. Please don’t let this stop you.
I’m soooo sorry! I think your ideas were the best too. You really listened to the bride and she got to be involved in the design, which I didn’t feel like the others were. You listened to her really well. I’m curious though – they showed Kerry asking the first two brides if given the $1000 opportunity at the end would they take. Your bride sounded like she would have in hindsight. Did she? If you take anything from this, next time you’ll have a better idea of time management for one of these FoodTV events. But most importantly, you took the challenge and you really listened well!
I saw the challenge and I don’t think it was as bad as you think. You were intuned to the brides wishes and none of the others did. I don’t agree with Danielle about the bride being a b—-. I think she was disappointed when she found out her cake wouldn’t be complete. Any of us that have been brides know how important ever detail of the wedding is, especially the cake. I loved the design.
I just wanted to tell you that I thought you were the epitome of graciousness on the food network challenge. I felt so badly for you. You seemed to be the only one really trying hard to please your client. She was just too “out there” in my opinion. I hope you get a chance to do this again, as it is very obvious to me that you are extremely talented and sweet to boot. : )
Does anyone happen to have a picture of all the cakes? I can’t find screenshots of any of them and I’m looking to get my wedding cake done…and really loved some of the concepts including yours Anne. I also liked the cake that was the final cake.
You get too nervous over your cakes even when they’re looking great! But that’s the sign of an artist….always aware of something that should be changed and never declaring it perfect!
hey Anne, i just watcHed the episode for the first time after searching for it forever!!!! Dont worry you did soo well. If one of your personal assistants would have been there instead you def would have won. You were also the only one who actually tried to do what the client wanted and not what you wanted. It was your first challenge so dont worry i hope your on it many times to come.
Dear Anne, You should have won based on the fact you were the ONLY chef who listened to the “client” and tried so hard to follow her vision. The other chefs were being reprimanded during the competition (by the judges in the commentary) for taking over the whole design from the brides, but in the end, the judges voted towards the typical wedding cake. I thought the judging was unfair, and I felt so badly for you since your “client” was the only one who had her design carried through! Trying to bring that design to life was such a tough challenge, but your dedication to the competition and its expectations are commendable! (Unlike the others who totally created what they had decided BEFORE they even arrived!)
I would have voted for you for staying true to the main focus of the competition. Good luck on future shows….please don’t let this one event bring you down. Overall, I hope this young, inexperienced bride realizes your care and concern towards her vision and apologizes for her statements on air.
I am curious if it is supposed to air again and if so the date. It is still listed on their site but there is not a time or date. I would love to see the challenge, but missed it.
Denise – I don’t know when it’s going to air next. But you can visit this link to see if it’s going to air in the next 14 days:
I just saw this challenge the other day for the first time and as soon as I saw that you were competing I called my husband in to watch the show, and I told him you were one of the most talented and amazing cake artists I’d ever seen. I was so rooting for you and was shocked that you were the only one who’s intent was to please the client. I could not believe that the other contestants came in with their own ideas and were set on selling their own concept. Wow! I was crushed that you ended up in the situation that you did. There were so many factors working against you and I hope that you do not personalize ANY of it. The bride was obviously really out of it because of the fasting, and that in itself will make anyone overly emotional and angry. (Been there!) I don’t think she realized how difficult it can be to translate an idea on paper into cake. LIke you said yourself, “It’s just not what I do”. The whole thing was so unfortunate, but obviously it was a good experience for you to go through and you’ve come away from it a true champion. I really think some people can decorate and some people can compete and you obviously can do both very, very well. You are an inspiration and I know that you will receive all the best that you deserve for all your hard work and dedication. Thank you for what you do!
Julia – thanks so much for your sweet note 🙂
Saw the Bride cake challenge this morning. I enjoy watching you work. Glad to find your blog.
