The Sun and the Moon Birthday Cake (2228)
Ralph, an accomplished scientist, reached out to use to help design his 50th birthday cake with the general theme of “Sun and Moon”. The party was being held at the Rat’s restaurant on the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.
Ralph sent us the party’s invitation which we based several of the cake’s characteristics. The top of the cake includes a sun and a crescent moon opposing each other. Patterned whiteness flanks one side of the cake, while the other side of the cake includes a painted scene inspired by the invitation. A celestial curtain cascades from the top tier all the way down to the bottom and acts as a separator for the cake’s designs.
For the cake flavors we tried to match them with the sun and moon. The sun was represented by vanilla cake and mango filling and the moon was represented with lemon cake and lemon cream cheese filling. We added one more flavor, red velvet with lemon cream cheese filling because that was Ralph’s favorite flavor.
Happy Birthday Ralph! We hope you enjoyed the cake!
